SELECTIVE PRUNING
Selective pruning targets individual branches where specific growth needs to be removed or reduced without unnecessarily altering the whole crown.
It may be used to address damaged or poorly positioned branches, improve clearance from buildings or access routes, or manage growth that is conflicting with surrounding features.
CROWN THINNING
Crown thinning involves the selective removal of smaller branches throughout the crown to reduce its density without substantially changing the tree’s overall size or natural outline.
Where appropriate, this can improve light penetration and reduce excessive crown density while retaining the overall form of the tree.
CROWN REDUCTION
Crown reduction selectively reduces the height and/or spread of a tree while retaining a natural overall form.
It may be appropriate where a tree has become too large for its surroundings, where additional clearance is required from nearby structures, or where reducing particular parts of the crown forms part of an ongoing management plan.
DEADWOOD PRUNING
Dead, damaged or poorly positioned branches can sometimes create problems over gardens, buildings, access routes and other areas beneath a tree.
Deadwood pruning allows individual branches to be removed or reduced without unnecessarily altering the whole crown, helping address specific defects, conflicts or clearance requirements.
CROWN LIFTING
Crown lifting increases clearance beneath the lower part of the canopy by selectively removing or shortening lower branches.
This can help improve usable space beneath a tree and provide appropriate clearance above roads, driveways, footpaths, gardens, buildings or other areas of regular access.
POLLARDING
Pollarding is a cyclical pruning system used to maintain certain trees at defined pruning points.
