SELECTIVE PRUNING
Pruning is often carried out on specific branches within a tree’s crown that pose a possible hazard to a structure, utility line or even the actual tree.
The removal of storm damaged or broken branches are also recommended to prevent decay and fungal infection through revealed sapwood to aid the tree’s natural defences.
CROWN THINNING
Crown thinning involves the pruning of foliage bearing branches from the entire crown to allow greater air and light flow throughout the tree.
While undertaking a crown thinning operation all defective or crossing branches that could cause a hazard are also pruned to aid to the tree’s development.
CROWN REDUCTION
This is the pruning of the outer most branches of the tree to reduce the overall size or shape of the crown.
Reducing the crown of both mature and young trees can be beneficial to the client’s requirements but also the neighbouring trees and structures.
CROWN CLEANING
Crown cleaning involves the pruning of dead or dying branches to maintain the tree’s health and prevent the possibility of infection.
Dead branches provide a vital energy resource for the development of decay-causing fungi.
By pruning the dead branches we help to prevent microorganisms invading the core wood of the tree causing irreversible damage.
CROWN LIFTING
This involves the pruning of the tree’s lower branches to a specified height to increase the clearance between the ground and the tree’s crown.

By pruning the lower branches of the tree’s crown it’s possible to allow better access for people, vehicles and livestock but can also allow more light into the surrounding area which benefits ground level plants.
POLLARDING
Pollarding involves the annual pruning of the tree’s growth to a certain point on the tree which is referred to as the ‘Pollard’.
Proper pollarding requires regular maintenance but is the most effective method of controlling a tree’s shape and size for the client.
Particular tree species lend themselves better to pollarding than others and when done correctly can maintain the tree's health and beauty for many years.
